SUMMARY:Thursday Practice — Platte River State Park
DESCRIPTION:Coaches and athletes from four teams will ride together at Platte River State Park. This great opportunity is provided to build trail skills\, riding endurance and positive relationships with athletes from other teams before the 2023 NICL race season gets underway. PRSP is a large public space with many THOR-maintained trails for many skill levels. This practice will be on the west side of the park and is designed to build familiarity with the easier trails for new riders as well as link multiple west-side trails that allow more experienced riders to build endurance and increase flow. The Trailforks map below can be used for reference where trails are located. \n \nView map at TrailForks \nView Practice Plan \nRide Plan\nTwo ride plans have been prepared for tonight. Our Gold group will have three pods of 6–10 riders and 3–4 coaches. Our Silver group will have four pods with 9 riders and 3–4 coaches. Tonight we will depart in three ride groups based on coach recommendations. These ride groups are just for tonight and will be updated next week. A ride leader and sweep are provided for each group. Stay with your ride group for the entire ride. \n

There are numerous opportunities there to work on skills and endurance without any single track. DESCRIPTION:On the first Wednesday of each month\, LCMTB coaches will be on hand for a little Hot Laps at Van Dorn Park. This is a new feature this season specifically for students that need a chance to build up endurance close to the City. We will have lap plans for our Gold – Silver – Black ride groups. NICL races range from 30-90 minutes depending on your category. Most practices are broken up into skills\, riding\, games. Hot Laps Wednesday will be just laps and ride groups will go out together\, rest together\, do the next set together\, etc for about an hour and a half. We’ll get a really good sense of pacing and see how that progresses over the season.

DESCRIPTION:Hello! We are proceeding with our plan by making some minor adjustments. Thank you to Coach Evrett and teammate Nettie for doing our trail reconnaissance following this morning storms. Give them a high five tonight. We will delay the start for one hours and follow the schedule below:\nRiders Ready! Meet your teammates at Branched Oak Lake for the second annual Tellinghuisen Time Trial*. This event is built around the need to get new athletes comfortable riding closer to race pace using all the skills they have learned so far. Returning athletes can gauge how much progress they have made since last season. \nSchedule\n\n5:00 p.m.: Set up and Eat\n6:15 p.m.: Preride Groups\n7:15 p.m.: Staged Time Trial\n\nParking: Please find a spot along the east side of the road to park. This will keep our eating and our staging area free of conflicts. Drop items off at the trailhead and then proceed ahead to park north or south of the trailhead area.\n\nEating: We will have tents and tables set up in the grass north of the trailhead tonight. This will work well for our potluck food. Please enjoy the meal in your lawn chairs with other teammates. I’ll put on my bug spray. I suggest you do the same away from the meal area. As we get closer to 6:00 PM\, I’ll be grabbing your attention to go over some instructions for the event.\n\nToilets and Water: The map below shows where some areas are that have toilets and water fill stations if you need.\n*The event is named after Seth Tellinghuisien (Alumni 2021). Seth’s teamwork\, positive character example\, and his competitive spirit exemplified the best of what NICA has to offer for student athletes.

DESCRIPTION:We looked into renting a few dozen hair dryers today so volunteers could go air out the trail after the deluge this morning. Thankfully the race director recognized the futility of this endeavor and just elected to postpone the event and reschedule it for the same time next Saturday.\n\nOur volunteer sheet\, mailed to all team families\, will remain open if you need to EDIT your assignment availability or can ADD your name for next week. I’m choosing to be grateful that we enjoyed an epic\, dry practice this week with 26 athletes and nine coaches. We look forward to more trail riding days with each other soon!

DESCRIPTION:The past two years we have ridden out to Twisters Turn and enjoyed food truck foods with yard games. This year\, FlyDogz will have food ready to sell inside Pioneers Park near the Bison entrance. The menu is here and payment options are numerous (cash\, card\, tap to Pay\, Cash App\, and Venmo). There will also be VeggieDoggies with same topping options available. We’ve extended the invite to DEVO\, StarCity BMX\, and anyone that supports youth cycling around Lincoln. The ride is scheduled to leave Van Dorn Park at 5:00. The route uses the paved Bison Trail about 3-miles to Pioneers Park. At the Bison entrance\, we’ll meet on the north side of the roundabout for food available by 5:30. We have a fun activity planned at 6:00 for anyone that wants to try. Some LCMTB friends have another cycling event that day and will meet us out at Pioneers Park with their bikes and that’s cool too\, just drive on out and enjoy the evening with us. Bikes optional. \nStudents that are not registered for the season MUST complete the online waiver to participate.

DESCRIPTION:Lancaster Composite Mountain Bike Team will join THOR (Trails Have our Respect) to lend a hand maintaining the Van Dorn Park single track trail. Come learn about how trail maintenance and trail features are planned or bring your gloves and tools to pitch in for some fun volunteer labor. Students and parents of Lancaster Composite can attend all or part of the activities planned. Group instruction\, waivers\, and distribution will occur on the hour. \n8 AM: First wave will get instruction and be Dig Ready: Bring rogue hoes\, flat shoves\, rakes\, spades\, and/or weed whips\, gloves\, eye protection \n9 AM: Second wave will get instruction and be Support Ready to build new features\, armor wet areas\, and/or reroute trail. \n10 AM: Third wave will get instruction and be Support Ready for maintenance/build tasks in various areas of the park or lend a hand with cleanup. \n11 AM: Final wave will meet at the team tent to lend a hand with clean up or with lunch prep for the trail crew. There is always the potential for a breakout game of foot down or red light/green light. \n12 PM: Lunch is available for trail support team. Trail laps to follow. \nStudents that are not registered for the season MUST complete the online waiver to participate.
